Digitalis purpurea ‘Monstrosa Purple*’ is an improved common foxglove loved by hummingbirds and pollinators alike for its soaring spikes of pendulous, funnel-shaped flowers that bloom profusely in early summer. An award-winner, this cultivar displays lilac-purple flowers with maroon speckled throats on sturdy, upright stems. Growth habit is 24 to 36 inch tall with a 12 inch spread. The spires branch well into multiple spires atop low-growing downy, green oblong leaves. Very easy to grow in beds and borders and awesome in drifts. Requires well-drained soil and average to medium moisture. A biennial or short-lived perennial that will often reseed. Hummingbird and pollinator attractor. Deer and rabbit resistant.
