Corylopsis sinensis var. sinensis (syn. willmottiae) ‘Spring Purple’

Corylopsis sinensis 'Spring Purple' has showy yellow, pendulous racemes in early spring and new purple foliage.

Corylopsis sinensis var. sinensis (syn. willmottiae) ‘Spring Purple’ is a medium sized deciduous shrub with showy, yellow, lightly fragrant, pendulous racemes that hang from naked branches in early spring. The new foliage emerges flushed with plum purple before turning to mid green. The foliage turns light yellow in autumn. The slender twigs and nice branching habit offer a lovely winter form to catch frost and snow. Will grow to 7′ tall and 4′ wide in 10 years. Provides early season nectar for native bees.
