Cornus kousa Scarlet Fire has large, glowing pink flowers with long, pointed bracts in late spring and burgundy autumn foliage. The berry like pink-purple fruits are edible but are generally left to the birds. Best grown in organically rich, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. A precocious performer, it will grow to three feet in the first year and to eight feet tall by years 8-10. Grows eventually to 20-30 feet tall and 15-20 feet wide. Cultivar name: ‘Rutpink’. For the 2024 Rare Flowering Tree Pre-Order plants will be in 1g pots and 2-3 feet tall.
