Cordyline australis ‘Red Sensation’

Cabbage palm is native to New Zealand where it can grow into an exotic, branched tree with its long, linear leaves. In cold climates it is called a “spike” and has traditionally been planted in the middle of pots surrounded by orange geraniums. In coastal BC it can prove hardy for many winters but often gets hit by cold snaps except for Tofino and Ucluelet where “old growth” Cordyline form impressive stands. ‘Red Sensation’ is a burgundy-leaved selection.
