Blue mistflower (Conoclinium coelestinum) resembles the annual Ageratum with flat-topped clusters of fuzzy, lavender buttons on purplish stems up to three feet tall in summer and fall. This perennial can spread by underground rhizomes so keep an eye and plant it where it can be controlled. It is a member of the Aster family but lacks the ray florets (“petals”). Popular with bees and butterflies. Occurs from Ontario south to Florida and Texas.
