Clethra barbinervis ‘Takeda Nishiki’ is a variegated cultivar of this Japanese native deciduous shrub. The variable white and cream variegation is splashed liberally across the foliage which is flushed with light to deep pink in early spring. The leaves turn red and gold in autumn. The short racemes of white fragrant flowers appear at the branch tips in summer. Vigorous and easy to grow. Popular with butterflies and possibly bees.
