Clematis viticella ‘Rubra’ is one of the reddest cultivars available with dark centres and a small white central flare. It is a member of the Viticella Group which were the first clematis grown in English gardens beginning in the 1500s. They bloom from July to September and are hardy to zone 3. Tolerant of part shade. Pruning group C – hard prune in early spring to about one foot from the ground.
