Citrus reticulata ‘Shiranui’ is a large and distinctive Japanese mandarin with a large bulge at the top of the fruit. It is highly regarded for its balanced flavour and large size and is quite expensive in Japan selling for more than $7 each! It is aromatic with a sweet, mild, tart flavour and low acid. It is known as ‘Dekopon’ or ‘Kiyopon’ in Japan, ‘Hallabong’ in South Korea, and sumo citrus in North America. It can be eaten fresh, juiced, or zested and to flavour baked goods sush as tarts, cakes, cookies and creme brulee. All of our citrus are grafted onto C-35 citrange, trifoliate orange, or other semi-dwarfing rootstock which confer good hardiness and production while reducing overall tree size.
