Athyrium niponicum ‘Crested Surf’ is a Japanese painted fern with a twist. The fronds are beautifully presented in silver-greens with purple-red stems, however, the tips of the fronds are double crested providing an ethereal effect. A larger, vigorous cultivar for the middle of the shady border reaching heights of 22 inches and spreading up to 30 inches wide. Grow in rich, evenly moist soils. Rabbit resistant.
