Be patient and leave this perennial vegetable to develop during the first year. Harvest from year two and onward. Use cooked, steamed, pickled and raw. Asparagus is a heavy feeder and needs rich manure or compost along with a regular fertilizing regime. Regular asparagus can take three growing seasons to harvest. Deer resistant.
