Amaranthus cruentus ‘Velvet Curtains’ is a purple amaranth that is a visually striking ornamental annual or biennial. A dramatic and handsome, bushy plant to 3 to 4 feet tall and wide with stunning, ovate, red-coloured foliage and erect, dark crimson, finely feathered plumes that are held up on strong, vertical spikes from early summer to fall. Young tender foliage is edible. Very easy to grow, low maintenance and heat-loving. Requires moderately fertile, humus rich, moist and well-drained soil. Use as a vertical garden accent, in borders, containers, and in fresh or dried bouquets. Bee attractor.
