Allium karataviense ‘Red Giant’ is an impressive form of this Uzbekistani species producing leaves and flower heads much larger than the species and blooming earlier. The flowers are also much darker in a shade of reddish purple forming heads up to 8 inches across! Leaves do not go dormant but remain lush during flowering. Few plants can offer the unique flower forms of ornamental onions. Every garden should have Alliums. Plant in multiples of 3, 5, 7 or more. The foliage remains pretty during flowering and beyond.
