Actaea simplex ‘Prichard’s Giant’

Actaea simplex 'Prichard's Giant' formerly Cimicifuga, is a large bugbane up to 8 feet tall and 5 feet wide with racemes of fragrant, white flowers.

Actaea simplex ‘Prichard’s Giant’ formerly known as Cimicifuga, is an impressive bugbane. This clump-forming perennial can reach 5 to 8 feet tall and 3 to 5 feet wide. Serrated green leaves form the base with slender, long dark vertical stems swaying in the air with bottlebrush racemes up to one foot long covered in scented, white flowers in early autumn. Flexible for light conditions but does require moist but well drained soil. Works well at the back of the shady garden for vertical appeal and intense fragrance. Attracts bees.
