Phoenix Perennials and Specialty Plants
 

Phoenix Perennials is a dynamic retail nursery located in Richmond, BC, in the heart of Metro Vancouver. We offer one of the largest and most exciting selections of perennials in Canada with over 4000 different garden plants every year. Our selection includes cutting edge new cultivars, garden stalwarts and the rare and unusual. We are open seasonally for retail shopping from the end of February until October 31st each year, seven days a week, 10am-5pm.

Mailorder is a new venture for us. In 2011 we will offer an “old fashioned” mail order procedure involving order forms that can be mailed, faxed or emailed. In 2012 we plan to launch a full online shopping experience. Starting in 2011 we will be shipping to all points in Canada. We will not be shipping to the US or internationally at this time.

Though we offer thousands of different garden plants every year for on-site sales we are not able to offer all of these plants as an official part of our mail order offerings. Many plants could be too large or difficult to stuff in a box. Their availability could also vary too greatly throughout the season to be able to offer them reliably in a mail order context. We will offer an official Mail Order List of more than 550 different plants in 2011. For plants not offered officially on our Mail Order List you may fill out our Special Request Form to check on availability and pricing.

To summarize, there are two ways to order plants from Phoenix Perennials:

The Special Request Form: For plants not included in our Mail Order List, such as plants highlighted in our e-newsletter, plants found in our Plant Library, or plants that would fulfill your wildest dreams, you can fill out our Special Request Form. Minimum Order: $40 (Before shipping & handling and taxes)

Ordering: We do not accept mail orders or mail order enquires by phone. Since we are a retail nursery open seven days a week for on-site sales we are unable to juggle phone calls related to our mail order sales. Please forward your orders and enquiries by mail, fax or email. We accept Visa, Mastercard, money orders and cheques. Please do not mail cash. If you are paying by credit card we require your signature. Emailed forms would have to be scanned to pdf and then emailed. If you wish to email your order form(s) and pay by cheque, we will process your payment when your cheque arrives by mail. Once we receive your order and have looked it over we will acknowledge it by email.

All orders and payments are processed when orders are received. Your advance payment ensures that your plants are held for you until the time of shipping. We will make every effort to ensure that your full order is available for you. However, as a small nursery we are not able to keep our Mail Order Plant List fully updated in real time as to the availability of plants. Some plants may have sold out prior to your order. It’s best to order early. Also, there can sometimes be crop failures due to weather, disease or insects.

Plants, Sizes and Prices: The plants offered as part of our Mail Order List are grown in 9cm (“4 inch”), 11cm (“4.5 inch”), 15cm (square gallon) or 1 gallon round pots. Should you place a Special Order Request for shipment of a plant in a larger pot size or of unusual shape additional shipping costs may apply.
Prices and sizes are subject to change without notice. We are a propagating nursery that grows approximately 70% of our plants ourselves. Sometimes plants need to be repotted to remain healthy and continue growing. Prices will always increase as plants are larger and offered in larger pots. Should you order a plant that we have repotted we will inform you of the new size and price and give you the option to accept or decline.

Substitutions, Back Orders, Refunds, and Credits: Should a plant on your order not be available at the time of shipping we can suggest possible substitutions, offer a refund, a credit towards your next order or, if the plants are coming along later in the season, process the unavailable plants as a back order to ship later in the season. Please fill out this area of the order form so we can know your preferences.

Shipping Times: In early spring, orders will be shipped when plants are ready and weather conditions in your area are not too cold. We grow the vast majority of our own plants. Our main production season runs from February through April with plants becoming ready for sale in April, May and June. These finish times can vary by a number of weeks depending on our local weather conditions. The second factor effecting your ship date is the weather in your area. Because we are located in the mildest growing region in Canada, our plants could be weeks or months ahead of the current weather conditions in your area, especially if you’re currently having a spring snowstorm! We project that most orders from our Mail Order List will ship from late April through June. We will continue to ship through the summer and fall as orders come in.

Shipping and Handling: Our shipping and handling costs are designed to cover our costs to select, pack and ship your plants. We make every effort to constantly increase our efficiency and to keep shipping costs as low as possible. However, carefully selecting, packing and shipping your plants takes time. Since our mail order prices are the same as for retail shoppers at the nursery we must cover our costs for shipping and handling. Also, close to 100% of our listed items are plants in full growth, not dormant packaged bulbs, rhizomes or tubers offered by many other mail order companies. It is much more time consuming and costly to pack a growing plant than it is to pack dormant bulbs.

Our shipping and handling charges are calculated for three regions: BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan, and the rest of Canada. The charges are made up of two components: a base charge which applies to every shipment and then an additional charge per pot based on the size of the pot. This price structure is based directly on the formulas used by Canada Post to calculate shipping charges and, therefore, is one of the most transparent we are aware of.

For unusual sizes or special request items we reserve the right to re-evaluate our shipping costs accordingly in order to recover our shipping and handling costs. All shipping and handling costs are subject to change without notice however, should they change, we will inform you of the new price structure – after all we’re new at this and figuring out the cost of shipping so many different plants in different size pots is really difficult!

Guarantee: We guarantee our plants to be true to name, healthy and ready to grow when they arrive on your doorstep. While we strive to pack our plants as carefully as possible, we assume that you are aware that every leaf might not arrive in perfect condition. Damaged foliage does not qualify for replacement or credit. You are buying healthy root systems and stems that will flush out into beautiful plants once they are unpacked and planted. We do not guarantee our plants against factors out of our control such as adverse weather or soil conditions, under or over watering, bouts of zonal denial where plants are planted outside their hardiness zones, winter, marauding and hungry garden creatures, or inadequate care on the part of the gardener.

If you have any questions or concerns about your shipment, you must email us within 5 days of receipt of your plants at mailorder@phoenixperennials.com. Please include a few digital photos if possible. If you do not contact us within 5 days then a problem that could have been corrected becomes one that is beyond our control and responsibility. However, if you encounter problems beyond this 5 day period that could be related to a cultural factor originating at our nursery, we will guarantee against such problems. Please contact us. We want you to be successful and happy with your plants.
We do not accept returns of mail ordered plants.
We cannot be held liable for any amount greater than the purchase price of the plant in question. It is the responsibility of each of our customers to research their new plants and to ask us if they have any questions about the cultural requirements of their plants.

Pick-Up at the Nursery: We do not accept orders through our Mail Order Division for pick-up at the nursery. Our Mail Order List and Special Request Forms are only for plants that are to be shipped in the mail. If you are interested in certain plants offered through mail order and wish to pick these up at the nursery you can add your name and desired plants to our Wait List (for plants we have in production that are not yet ready) or our Wish List (for plants we think we might come across that we will keep our eyes open for). When your desired plants are available, we will call or email you. For our Wait or Wish Lists please email (info@phoenixperennials.com), call, or tell us when you come to visit.

Special Offers: Because we are also a regular retail nursery we will be offering coupons, special offers, loyalty cards, vouchers and sales for on-site purchases at the nursery throughout the season. These special offers do not apply to mail order items unless stated specifically that they can be used for mail order. By default, all special offers, sales, loyalty cards, vouchers and coupons do not apply to mail order unless otherwise stated. Auction Mart and other vouchers and gift certificates donated by the nursery for fundraisers can be used to cover plant costs and taxes but not shipping and handling.

Cancellation Policy: In the event that you wish to cancel all or part of an order a 25% cancellation fee will be applied to the cancelled plants since they will have been reserved and held for you from the time of placing your order.
